CITIES - GRANADA

Granada lies at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, in close proximity to a fertile, irrigated plain. This historic landmark extends over three hills, each one offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside. The Alhambra, outstanding example of Spanish Renaissance architecture, stands tall on the highest peak. Tourists from all corners of the world continue to visit the site of this marvelous Spanish, Arabian and Berber masterwork.

For over 200 years, remnants of this Moorish palace, built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th Century, have captured the imagination of writers and artists the world over. As a result of their inspiring works, people gained a deeper understanding of the refined civilization that flourished throughout the royal courts of Toledo and Cordoba and attracted a plethora of scholars from the Continent and beyond. With the Christian conquest that extended from the 11th to the 13th centuries, this unknown kingdom in the South East corner of the Spanish peninsula was suddenly cast into the limelight. Refugees of the illustrious city of Granada, armed with the knowledge that their idyllic life in Iberia was soon to end, harnessed their knowledge, their talents and their resources to shape the Alhambra, a splendid tribute to Spain.
